Our Admissions Process

We are a referral based alternative provision school that works with mainstream schools commissioning places with us and the young person being dual registered. We do not take single registrations students (e.g. on our sole roll) and we are unfortunately not able to take direct applications from families.

We offer a 1-term short staff package in Key Stage 3 for Years 8 and 9 called CONNECT and the more traditional pathway in Key Stage 4 for Year 10 and 11 with medium and long-term provision.

The referral and admission protocols follow the 8 STEP process:

  1. Initial contact is made with the Edge Academy via email or telephone 0121 533 5858.
  2. The commissioning school or Fair Access Panel completes and returns the digital Edge referral form.
  3. The student, family and commissioning school representative coordinate a joint admission visit to the Edge Academy to discuss the possible placement, meet each other and view the school.
  4. Edge Academy staff will make contact with family/home to invite student only to The Edge for 60-90mins to complete the baseline assessments. The 5 baseline assessment activities (3 literacy and 2 numeracy) are to ensure we are able to effectively support the new learner in lessons by having accurate data and information.
  5. Edge Academy staff will contact the family/home to confirm and conduct a home visit to complete signature collection on the traditional student admissions pack for consents, medical details, emergency contacts, code of conduct, etc.
  6. Edge Academy staff agree a provisional start date with student and family.
  7. Edge safeguard team contact commissioning school DSL for background information, Edge SENCO contacts commissioning school for background information.
  8. Student starts at Edge and commissioning school receives a weekly behaviour and achievements report/email and a daily attendance report/email.
